About

Communication Designer, visual artist and spoken word poet Bobby Fitzgerald has been working in the environmental awareness sector since graduating Goldsmiths University of London in 2015 with a B.A. in Design. Bobby’s work and artistic practice focuses on creating aesthetically intriguing and fundamentally positive ways of engaging with the environmental crisis.

Through his ongoing work with organizations such as the Green party, Not here not Anywhere and Friends of the Earth Ireland Bobby’s work on awareness campaigns, political messaging, and branding exercises serve to bring him closer to the practical everyday needs of those engaged with the environmental cause. Whilst his personal artistic and design practice aims to cast a much larger conceptual net over the pertinent issues inherent in the unfolding collapse of the biosphere.

Fitzgerald’s personal practice looks to evoke and expand upon a concept know as “The Overview Effect”, a term used to describe the cognitive shift that occurs in astronauts when they view the Earth from outer space. Using a performative alias known as Earthman Bob, Fitzgerald regularly performs spoken word pieces from the perspective of an astronaut, to engage with the environmental crisis from a literal and metaphorical higher perspective. In addition Fitzgerald uses his painting practice to expand upon the visceral and visual elements of seeing the Earth from outer space.
