Splishey Splashey
This is a very early painting of mine and served as an initial exploration in the themes and techniques inherent in the rest of my landscapes to date. I was really interested to explore how the abstraction of colour could work in a city scape, here removing the greys, greens and sky blues and reinterpreting them in vibrant pop colours to see how that vibrancy could effect the mood and perspective of the urban environment. Chiefly however, my interest was in investigating how you could depict an environment with humans central to the image but also dwarfed by their surroundings. I wanted to create a world within the painting where the humans in it were defined by their multiplicity, as single parts of a greater whole, the whole of which was underneath their enveloping environment.
